Female Genital Mutilation/Cutting: A Global Perspective
Female genital mutilation/cutting (FGM/C) is a form of violence against women and girls, a breach of human rights and a threat to global sustainable development.
Migration of FGM/C practicing communities has led to an increase in the number of women in the UK who have undergone the practice. In order to eradicate FGM/C in the UK, it is necessary to tackle the issue at a global level.
This policy brief, written by one of our members for International Day of Zero Tolerance for FGM 2020, considers FGM/C from a global perspective, including discussion of the methods that can be implemented by government partners to achieve abandonment of the practice, the history of UK support for FGM/C eradication, and future priorities.
